DELTA

The Distance Education Learning and Teaching Academy (DELTA) addresses the needs of faculty, advisors, and students by providing training and support needed to be successful in an online academic environment.

As you work with your instructional designer developing your online course, you may want to consider attending one or more of the various professional learning trainings offered by ODEE's DELTA to hone your online instructional prowess. Opportunities to develop your skills as an online instructor are offered year-round with a majority of offerings held between August and May. Below is a listing of what trainings and support are offered through DELTA. You can read through descriptions for some of our more popular events as well. Online Course Delivery Basics

This three week, facilitated Carmen online course focuses on understanding theories and strategies that address the needs of new online instructors at The Ohio State University. The course addresses teaching and learning theories and strategies, social inclusion and collaboration strategies, refinement of classroom management and planning techniques, and informal and formal assessment practices. Instructors are provided with essential communication and conflict resolution strategies needed to have high-quality relationships with students. New instructors gain an understanding of the standards of professional development and teaching quality as expected from Ohio State.

Kickstart Week

Kickstart Week is a 4-day program designed to help instructors focus on course development for online and hybrid classes, with lots of support from ODEE instructional designers and educational technology staff. Although designed to be attended all four days, participants may register for individual days as their schedule permits. Kickstart is a way ODEE can provide concentrated support from our experts for faculty who are working on developing courses on their own, with a team of colleagues, or in collaboration with an instructional designer.

Creation Studios

Course Creation Studios are offered to support Ohio State instructors and designers who want to develop, improve or rethink their online, hybrid or face-to-face course design through technology. These events are held in a Digital Union, with ODEE instructional designers and staff on hand to answer questions about CarmenCanvas and Ohio State's e-learning toolset, as well as other technologies attendees can employ in their teaching.

Think of the Creation Studio as a "makerspace" for course development where instructors of all experiences levels are welcome. Participants have access to state-of-the-art software in the Digital Union and be able to try out ideas they've been thinking about but weren't sure how to put into action. The two-hour studio is open and unstructured. Generally, there is a brief introduction to supported tools followed by ample time for collaborative discussion, sharing and consultation, and to test out the capabilities of various tools within the context of each participant's specific project.
