Sarah's experience
Enrolled in an Educational Psychology Master’s program, Sarah also works full-time as a teacher. She is taking two courses this semester and usually studies at home after work or during weekends. She found herself easily interrupted when learning at home by her family and work. It happened often that she started reading an article while her husband was watching their 2-year-old, but she inevitably had to pause to stop a tantrum, get dinner started, or put her toddler to bed. She got support from her husband, and she treasured her time with her son, but the lack of consistent time alone made it difficult to finish long reading assignments or big projects. It once took her three days to read a 12-page article. Some weeks, she started to write the 2-page reflective journals only 2 hours before the time they were due. Last week, Sarah worked overtime on a very important project at work which was highly related to her performance and pay. She completely forgot about the assignments due that week. After reading the syllabus section stating that there was no make-up policy for the assignments, Sarah now is thinking of dropping one or all the courses.
